Cyprus International Trade Fair
Cyprus New 18.05.09
Last week we reported on the imminent opening of the Tiffany Shopping Mall in Limassol and this week it’s the turn of the 34th Cyprus International Fair to show that confidence in Cyprus is still going strong, despite the global economic downturn.
This latest trade fair, a regular annual event, will open its doors on 22nd May, with an official inauguration by the President, Demetrios Christofias.
It will include 150 exhibitors showing off the products and services from 1,000 Cypriot companies and 20 other countries around the world.
The organisers are expecting around 350,000 visitors who will be able to see exhibits from all sectors of the business community – those that relate to home and design, machinery and technology and services both public and private, as well as home equipment and electrical appliances.
Cyprus’ International Fair remains the most popular trade exhibition on the island, despite the worldwide trend which shows that specialised fairs are more popular than general exhibitions.
The Cyprus Fairs Authority is showing its continued confidence in the future of the island with its plans to invest some €15-20 million to give its ExpoCyprus facilities in Nicosia a major facelift so that it is in a position to compete with other international exhibition venues.
Authority chairman Loris Tryfon said that plans have reached a “final stage” and the aim is for the whole project to be completed by 2012 when Cyprus hosts the EU presidency.
The centrepiece of the upgraded ExpoCyprus will be a 10,000-capacity facility for major events, as well as a number of smaller purpose-built halls, all supported by the latest in communication technology.
The 34th International Fair will open to the public at 6.00 pm on Friday, 22nd May and will remain open until Sunday 31st May.
Opening hours are 6.00 pm until 11.00 pm on weekdays and Sundays and from 6.00 pm until midnight on Saturdays.
The entrance fee is €5.00.
