The Best of Cyprus - Beaches
Cyprus is of course famous for its beaches and often the best time to come is when it’s a little chilly at home; in the autumn or the spring. There’s still plenty of sun in Cyprus, the heat is not as intense as the height of summer, and you still get your tan!
Here at Cyprus Property World, we’ve come up with a few ideas for some very special beaches where you won’t have to fight for space whatever time of year it is – in fact, out of the high season, you may see very few other people indeed. If that sounds perfect to you, read on, chill out, and relax.

Paramali and Mansoura Beaches
Two beaches worth a visit are Paramali, which is around 20km west of Limassol, not far from Pissouri, and Mansoura, which is up past Polis and Latchi, on the north-west coast, close to the border with the Turkish-occupied part of the island.
To find Paramali, take the named exit on the road past Limassol, but then be prepared to go down a dirt track, past a church and through some fields. This beach is popular with locals and kite surfers and there are lots of little private sheltered coves for sun-bathing and some beautiful clear water which makes it perfect for water sports. Mansoura is quite a drive, especially if you’re coming from further than Paphos. It’s close to Kato Pyrgos, right on the Green Line border and there are spectacular views of Morphou Bay and the Kyrenian mountains in the Turkish-controlled north of the island.
Chrysochous Bay
Also in the west of Cyprus, past Paphos, you will find the breathtaking Chrysochous Bay. It stretches from Polis and Latchi, close to the Akamas Peninsula to Pomos further around the bay. Pomos has a tiny fishing harbour right next to its beach, so you can eat freshly-caught fish here. Polis to Pomos is a beautiful coastline with plenty of places to stop and spend a few idyllic hours on a quiet bit of beach – what’s more there are several tavernas along this stretch with mean that you won’t go hungry or thirsty.
Coral Bay
One of the most famous beaches in Cyprus, Coral Bay is around 10km north of Paphos and is a beautiful long, sandy beach with clear calm water, so perfect for the buckets and spades. This beach gets very busy in the summer, but is still lots of fun and worth a visit at any time of year.
Kourion Beach
This is another gorgeous beach, long and sandy, situated around 20km west of Limassol. Kourion beach has the added bonus of being overlooked by the stunning 2nd century AD amphitheatre. So a visit to this beach comes with history and fabulous scenery.
Ayia Napa
In the east of the island is the famous – or some would say, infamous – Ayia Napa, where there are a number of beaches popular with the young and beautiful who party their holidays away. Most Ayia Napa beaches are very popular and crowded during the summer, particularly the famous Nissi Beach, but out of season, it’s a great choice. ‘Nissi’ means ‘Small Island’, named after the small island just next to the beach, which can be reached by walking through the water. This beach is also suitable for children because the small island prevents any strong waves reaching the shore.
Other popular beaches in Ayia Napa are Macronissos Bay, considered by many to be the most beautiful beach in the area and Golden Beach. They are all gently shelving, long white sandy beaches and perfect for young people and families.
Ayia Thekla
If you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful beach, try Ayia Thekla, which is close to the WaterWorld water park, just 6km west of Ayia Napa and is within walking distance of the main road which leads to Ayia Napa. The beach takes its name from a small old church which stands on a little rise above the beach. There’s a rough track that leads down to a cove but the effort is well worth it; turquoise waters, almost deserted sands – and perfect peace.
